In recent times, the term gender has gained considerable attention among rural development professionals. Governments at both the national and state levels have integrated gender mainstreaming into various plans and programs. Many organizations have made gender-related training programs mandatory as part of their training agenda.

Scholars conducting research on gender-related issues require secondary data as a foundation for their studies. With this in mind, the authors have sought to compile relevant literature from various sources and references to produce a book on gender mainstreaming in the agricultural sector. The book covers four key topics: 1) the status of farm women and their empowerment, 2) gender issues in agriculture, 3) mainstreaming gender through the formation of Self-Help Groups, and 4) the empowerment of rural women.
